There will be no campfires nor s'mores, but the Summer Camp/Job Fair is bringing recreation oriented job and internship opportunities to Murray State students.
Kelly Rogers, division coordinator of recreation and leisure services, has been in charge of the Summer Camp/Job Fair for two years.
"Our division might put it on, but it is a service to the whole community," he said. "We've got a real variety of organizations coming next week."
Some of those organizations include Paducah Park Services, Aquatic Management Corp. in Hopkinsville, Ky., and Camp Little Giant in Illinois, Melissa Clapp said. Last year there were 20 organizations, and this year the event is expected to be the same size, she said.
Clapp, a junior organizational communication major from Mayfield, Ky., is one of two students helping to coordinate this job fair.
"A lot of people think that camps and resorts are only for certain majors, but really these are leadership positions that will look good for anyone's resume," she said.
A job fair also provides an opportunity for a more personal evaluation of the employer, Clapp said.
"I'm really excited about this job fair because I won't just be going to a Web site, or calling someone about my internship," she said. "I'll be able to interact with someone from each organization and figure out if it will be a good fit for me.
Tobias Hafer, a recreation and leisure services major from Gilbertsville, Ky., was responsible for contacting and recruiting organizations for the event.
"Since I am from the area, I tried to get some local places like resorts from the lakes area and golf courses," he said. "But I also tried to include opportunities for students who live at the other end of the state, or even in a different one."
This job fair differs from the Career Services-sponsored career fair in March, because this focuses only on employment for summer 2008, Clapp said.
The Summer Camp/Job Fair will be 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday, in the Curris Center Rocking Chair Lounge.
