Students interested in using their creativity or looking at handmade, unique objects should look no further than Grand Rivers, Ky., for their crafting fix.
Kentucky's Western Waterland's annual Arts and Crafts Festival runs from Saturday to Monday at Little Lake Park.
The festival is a fundraiser for KWW, a privately funded organization promoting tourism in western Kentucky.
According to a press release, the festival features many unique and handmade crafts including soaps, lotions, pottery and woodwork. About 100 booths featuring artists from seven different states will have displays at the festival.
In addition to crafts and other handmade items, KWW Maurinel Larkin, executive director said artisans will perform woodworking demonstrations and face painting.
"I'm sure there will be more," Larkin said.
Eight food vendors from across the region will serve food at the festival. Larkin said vendors include Patti's, Rudy's and stands featuring snacks such as kettle corn and lemonade.
"They have everything from what adults would like down to seniors and kids," Larkin said.
Murray State students are not represented at the festival, but Larkin said booth space is available for $100 if students are interested in showcasing their work.
John Vaught, junior from Central City, Ky., said though he will not attend this year, he was aware the craft festival was going on this weekend.
"I used to go to some with my mom when I was younger," Vaught said.
KWW includes businesses in the 15 western-most counties of Kentucky. Larkin said businesses pay a $125 membership fee to join. The fees are used to print 85,000 visitor's guides and 125,000 facilities and maps guides. Member businesses are allowed to advertise in these guides.
The festival is from 9 a.m. to dusk Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday at Little Lake Park in Grand Rivers. The cost is $3 per car or $1 for walk-ins.
